Classification of matter

Matter can be divided into 2 main parts as,
Pure substances
Mixtures

Pure substances
Matter that contains only one constituent with specific property is known as pure substances.
eg- Hydrogen
- Helium
- carbon
- water etc...
And also pure substances can be divided into 2 parts as ,
Elements - just a single component. eg- hydrogen(H)
compounds - by combining 2 or more elements a single substance is made. eg- water(H2O).
Mixtures
Matter that contain 2 or more constitutes are known as mixtures. Mixtures also again divided into groups as,
Homogeneous mixtures - mixtures which have uniform composition through out the mixture. eg- salt solution, glucose solution.
Heterogeneous mixtures - mixtures in which the composition is not uniform through out the mixture. eg- water and sand mixture, muddy water.
