Classification of matter

Matter can be divided into 2 main parts as,

  1. Pure substances

  2. Mixtures

Pure substances

Matter that contains only one constituent with specific property is known as pure substances.

eg- Hydrogen

    - Helium

    - carbon

    - water etc...

And also pure substances can be divided into 2 parts as ,

  1. Elements - just a single component. eg- hydrogen(H)

  2. compounds - by combining 2 or more elements a single substance is made. eg- water(H2O).

Mixtures

Matter that contain 2 or more constitutes are known as mixtures. Mixtures also again divided into  groups as,

  1. Homogeneous mixtures - mixtures which have uniform composition through out the mixture. eg- salt solution, glucose solution.

  2. Heterogeneous mixtures - mixtures in which the composition is not uniform through out the mixture. eg- water and sand mixture, muddy water.

Atom

The building unit of matter is known as atom. British scientist Jhone Dolton was the first scientist who used the term atom to the smallest invisible particle. the word atom gives the meaning cannot be dividable further.

Molecules

Unit formed by combination of one or mare atoms of same type or different type are called molecules. by combining same types of molecules homogeneous are formed.
