Structure and function of human eye

Part of the structure

Information

  1. Sclerotic layer

  • Outer layer of the eye.

  • Light do not go through it.

 2. Cornea

  • Cornea is a thin and transparent layer which is in front of iris.

3. Choroid layer

  • Layer inside sclerotic layer.

  • Help to transport blood to eye.

4. Retina

  • Inner most layer of the eye.

  • Contain light sensitive cells.

  • Also cone cells are located.

5. Aqueous humour

  • Aqueous humour is a transparent watery liquid.

  • In between lens and cornea to fill the gap among them.

6. Lens

  • Biconvex transparent lens which has the ability to change its curvature.

  • Focus the light rays on retina.

7. Iris

  • Control the amount of light entering the eye.

8. Pupil

  • The space in the center of the iris.

  • And let the light flow through it.

9. Ciliary muscles

  • Stands to hold the lens.

  • Help to change the curvature of the lens when necessary.

10. Vitreous humour

  • A transparent jelly like substance which is in the middle of eye to fill that space and help to maintain the spherical shape of the eye.

11. Fovea /yellow spot

  • The light sensitive part of the retina.

  • Sharp imagers form in here.

12. Blind spot

  • This part do not contain light sensitive cells so even if the light fall on it vision is impossible.

13. Optic nerve

  • The nerve which transport the massagers from eye to brain

  • Ossicles are the three bones in the ear named malleus, incuse and stapes.

5. Eustachian tube

  • An open tube connected to pharynx.
